EVOLUTION OF THE ROAD OF PAPEETE

We can see in these images the transformation of the harbor of Papeete, between 1952 and 2017.

Motu Uta still bore its name well, an island located at the entrance to the harbour, developed from the 1960s to accommodate port facilities. It was therefore linked to the city of Papeete by a long dyke built on the reef, and was also polderized, as was the east of the harbour.

This space eaten away from the sea has now become an important port area for Polynesia, an entry point for imported goods and products.
